 有機合成において保護剤を有効に利用することは,合成戦略上,非常に重要です。有用な保護剤は,保護したい官能基と選択的に反応し,高い収率で保護基が導入できること,そしてこの保護基の導入された部分が種々の反応に安定であること,加えて一定の条件下で選択的に脱保護が行えることが必要です。
 TMS化剤,Boc化剤,トリチル化剤のように古くから知られ汎用されているものから,脂肪族第1級アミンとのみ反応してアザジシラシクロペンタン誘導体を生成する特殊な保護剤1,2-ビス(クロロジメチルシリル)エタン,近年,袖岡,清水らが開発したTeoc-NT1)まで,幅広く収載いたしました。
 ことにTeoc-NTは,安定で取り扱いやすい有用な保護基導入剤で,種々のアミン,アルコール,チオールと室温で速やかに反応し,それぞれ対応する保護体を高収率で与えます。副生成物であるニトロトリアゾールは反応溶媒に不溶で,結晶として析出し,ろ過操作のみで目的物から分離することができます。また,Teoc基は中性条件下,フッ素イオンにより容易に脱保護できることから,Teoc-NTは塩基に不安定なオリゴヌクレオチド誘導体の合成にも極めて有用です。
